Shields is a one-stop shop - we take your job from concept to the consumer.  We get to know your business and design custom packaging that meets both your budget and your standards for quality. Our artists help you create a new look or modify an existing design and platemakers bring your design to our flexographic presses. These in-house services reduce costs and production time.

Raw Materials

 
As a custom extruder, we stock more than two dozen grades of polymers and more than 50 colors and additives. We test deliveries in our laboratory to ensure the raw materials meet established compliance standards before they are transferred to one of our 26 storage silos.

Custom Extrusion

 
We operate 30 mono- and multi-layer extrusion lines, producing more than 100 million pounds of flexible packaging a year. Resin blends are formulated for each job to create film with the appropriate density, strength and elasticity. At each step in the manufacturing process, our operators and technicians use their training and experience to maximize efficiency and produce high performance flexible packaging.

Flexographic Printing

 
Shields puts 70 years of printing expertise to work for you, providing both in-line and out-of-line printing on 30 multiple-color presses. Whether your packaging calls for one-color labeling or full-color graphics, we have the press and the knowledge to get the job done.
 
Shields offers:
high-resolution screen-printing on central impression presses
 high-speed line printing on stack presses
 process printing on a high-tech 8 and 10-color presses
 state-of-the-art ink-dispensing systems

Custom Conversion

 
Shields takes high-performance film to the next level by converting it into practical, cost-effective packaging. Film can be folded, sealed, embossed or vented and converted into bags, pouches, envelopes, liners and covers for a variety of applications.

Technical Laboratory

 
Flexible packaging is a science at Shields. Our in-house technical laboratory uses the latest in physical property testing equipment and analytical instruments to gather data for quality control and for the research and development of new products. We take what we learn in the laboratory and put it to work in manufacturing, creating quality packaging that makes sense to the consumer, the environment and your budget.

The 500-plus employees of Shields Bag and Printing Company share a commitment to serving customers. Most of our employees have been with the company for more than 10 years and many are 20-plus-year employees. A modern shipping facility and warehouse management system help us guarantee prompt delivery to points throughout the United States and abroad.
